"Don't Worry, Be Wavy!" Interview with i-Wave Founder
Katie Darling, MSU,* is founder and director of the popular Motherwave and Soulwave Institutes which, since 1995, trained hundreds of students to discover their inner wave and "melt down,"™ their painbodies or unreal selves. She is returning after a 3-year hiatus, to teach her new evolutionary wave of work:
the Infinite Wave, or i-Wave.
i-Wavework transcends and includes the motherwave and soulwave initiations that came before. The focus is now on a faster acceleration into a direct experience of Oneness with source, which she calls the Infinite Wave. The i-Wave practice teaches the rapid expansion of the i into the I, which Katie feels is a skill and knowledge urgently required by many in these times.
(Interviewer:) Katie, what is The Infinite Wave, or i-Wave?
It's my new work. It has come out of a very deep exploration within myself and with clients, of what really works to shift and awaken consciousness. Many feel that it no longer works to be a control freak, trying to manipulate and force change through a mental picture of reality. Then perhaps we get tired, and try to "let go and let God," that is, to allow a larger Reality or Source to guide us. But that doesn't necessarily work either: is it Reality or your own subconscious fear that is now running the show? Source or Reality is not an imaginary pet: It is Realer than your mind, more loving than your deepest heart experiences, more intelligent than your intellect. It knows your deepest desires, because they are your highest destiny. It knows more single people than you do, and where your personal abundant supply is buried, how to heal you...
We may feel anxious or lonely or fearful or like life is a struggle, because we have lost touch with that Reality. We may believe in It, but we can't feel it.
Why not?
Because it's WET and we are DRY. Reality, or God, or The Field of awake consciousness that created us and is sustaining us is inherently DYNAMIC, not STATIC. It is fluid, wavy, fractal, TENDER, not still, not frozen, not fixated. I call it the infinite wave. It is outside time and space. It is who and what you really are, where you really come from, and where you are going on your evolutionary journey. It has to be experienced to be understood (it can't even be remembered, as it is always present here and now).
How does i-Wavework compare to your former motherwave and soulwave teachings?
The image (from Star Wars) of the starship going into warp speed comes to mind. Your ship may already be going faster than the average space vehicle. But then a moment comes when a real leap across universes is needed. For me, that moment came when my life seemed to fall apart a few years ago. As I sat in the rubble, I realized that it wasn't a matter of picking up the pieces; it wasn't even about healing, but about a totally new life! It was about a kind of resurrection, if you will excuse how that sounds. A radically new doorway was in front of me, leading into a realm which I perhaps thought I already knew, but really just knew about.
On the other side of that portal is a completely different level of consciousness. Words like "infinite" and "awakening" and "Oneness" are an attempt to describe this awareness. It's not just the New Agey thing of having read the right books, eating right, doing yoga, meditating, changing your thoughts, being green, and so on. That is all good and okay, but then there is this next portal; then it's time to dissolve and be re-formed as who you really are, not separate from your infinite source. It has taken me several years to make this shift, which is still happening for me, and also to understand how best to teach this.
I'm already on a spiritual/personal growth path. How do I know I don't already have this experience?
You probably have already had this experience, for brief moments. However, if you are still experiencing any significant degree of fear, anxiety, defensiveness, struggle, stress, loneliness, looping thoughts or a sense that life or the world isn't safe for you, then i-Wavework can help you enter an abiding, more consistent experience of freedom and peace. Another way to say this is: "Don't Worry, Be Wavy!"
What is different about i-Wave? How does it compare to other spiritual or personal growth practices?
One big difference ---in fact this makes i-Wavework unique--- is that it covers all the human bases: body, mind, breath, emotions, subconscious, spirit, soul purpose and other dimensions of being that don't have names.
There are many powerful practices that work to wake us up at the mental or the physical, or the emotional, or subconscious or spiritual level. And you can spend your life running from one class or method to another, trying to cobble them all together, to deal with the many aspects of your wonderful, complex self. Perhaps you work cognitively with books and talks, and/or loosen up your body with movement work, change your thoughts with a coach, release emotions in therapy, realize your Oneness with All in meditation... It can get quite exhausting, and often it seems that the one dimension you neglect becomes the place where your resistance sneaks in and gets you. (SCROLL DOWN)
What do you mean by that?
For example, you can do years of spiritual awareness work, sitting in meditation or satsang with a teacher, and still have layers and layers of fixated attention stuck in your stiff, upright body. Or you can do years of yoga or even free dance, and read all the right books, and still not realize you are run by suppressed fear or anger. Or perhaps you have gotten lost in a loop of emotional processing and have lost the natural human potential to make a simple decision of powerful, aligned will that changes your reality in an instant.
And then, even if you get your "self" (small 's'!) all integrated, it's still not your Real Self! You are still identified with something unreal. Sure, you're balanced, fluid, and so on, but that is only a platform that allows you to lift off out of the "trance" or "special effect" of being a separate self, battling it out with all the other separate selves in the matrix of collective consciousness. You also need to wake up and remember who you really are.
Whew! That's a lot! So is that "awakening" piece the "i" in i-Wave?
Yes! It's all about the "I" --the infinite, invisible, all-loving, all-providing "I", or I AM consciousness. As you will discover, i-Wavework folds it all into one easy, fluid practice: ---i-WAVE-- that you can learn to do at any time, in about a minute.
All these words like awakening and Oneness make me concerned that this work may not help me in my real life. Is i-Wavework really practical?
Well, it will take you right where you are now, and evolve you quickly into your next level of consciousness, which is the most practical help you can really get. Otherwise it's all just Band-Aid. Most practical stuff that goes wrong in our lives, at least when we're on a spiritual or growth path, does so because we are in transition, trying to evolve ourselves into greater freedom. We sometimes have to break down to break through; its a cosmic methodology!
It's important not to beat yourself or anyone else up for going through this! We may not have consciously wanted to lose everything, or go through problems in the 4 Biggies (love, wealth, health, life purpose), but our soul apparently has a different agenda. It wants us to evolve fast this life. This is the life. Now is the time.
Are you talking about the whole "2012 is coming" thing?
Ha ha. No! I'm sure that will be as anti-climactic as the Y2K thing. And, Yes! This is a very, very accelerated time in human history. It feels pivotal to me, as though we are entering into a collective shift. I've been hearing this since the 60s, but now it feels overwhelming. The pressure is building, peoples' realities are becoming less and less stable. The need to connect to Reality is already a deep hunger for many.
Going back to the practical issue, will i-Wavework help me with those Four Biggies: Love, Wealth, Health, Life Purpose?
Yes, but not in the way you might expect.
Another big difference between this work and much of what is out there is that we're not saying that i-Wavework will make you a powerful manifester, and that we will teach you to fulfill all your desires, attract your dreams, etc. etc. You've probably tried all that! The so-called "Secret," and so on. That kind of work addresses the metaphysical level of consciousness. It's important work, that starts to take us out of the material level of consciousness where much of humanity is stuck.
But, exciting though it can be initially, the metaphysical dimension is just a phase in the evolution of consciousness into its awakening.
i-Wavework is about evolving past the metaphysical into the MYSTICAL level of consciousness, which isn't really a level at all, because it's the true awakening into Oneness where you realize you're not separate from your source, and that everything is One, which contains it all, and it's all okay.
And the great thing is that this mystical awakening process is evolutionary, which means that everything from the phase before is included in the next phase. This is called "transcend and include."
So as you awaken into Oneness, through the eminently practical methodology of learning to surf the i-Wave, you will still keep everything you have learned, historically, both in the material phase (like feeding your cat, taking care of your body and business) and the metaphysical phase (such as all that psychological clearing, all that careful monitoring of your thinking, all that Law of Attraction practice). Yet it's all quite different from the perspective of this new place. You release the mental struggle of controlling, creating, trying, and you begin to dissolve into that consciousness that---as you now know and trust---handles everything for you.
What do you mean, "handles everything for you?" This sounds a bit God-like!
Yes, indeed! I'm not religious, but I love what Jesus said:
"Seek ye first the Kingdom of Heaven and all else shall be added unto you. "
He also said not to worry about tomorrow, about what you shall eat, drink, wear, and so on, because your Father in heaven already knows you need these things.
Are you worried?
Here's a non-literal translation of how that may apply to this work:
"Seek ye first the direct experience of the Infinite Wave, and everything will flow abundanatly!"
In other words, if, instead of stressing and struggling, you put all that incredible energy and attention you have bound up in your painbody into merging into your real source---which shift can be very simple and practical, and which we call we call "learning to surf the infinite wave"---all the other aspects of your life are guided and provided without stress. That source, The One, or whatever you call it, knows what you need, because it's a higher level of your own consciousness, which birthed you into form and isn't going to abandon you now.
But you may feel abandoned, and you may even manifest some outer proof of this, and blame God, life or yourself for this---if your attention is fixated on all your beliefs and feelings that you are separate, and need to struggle to get by, and that life is all about work. When you merge back into your own motherwave, soulwave, i-Wave, you may still work--perhaps even more intensely---but the experience will be effortless and inspired. The anxiety about survival is gone. Period.
What's with the waves? Is it a gimmick?
It's the essence of the work. i-Wavework, like motherwavework and soulwavework before it, really works (as hundreds will attest), because it is based on what actually IS, rather than a mental version of things. Whether viewed spiritually or scientifically, the undeniable fact is that the whole of reality is made up of waves. The ego makes it all feel like particles, separate systems, and so on.
But it's all one ocean and "waves-r-us!"
I think I get it, but can you say more?
Really, it makes sense when you experience the Infinite Wave directly, but here goes:
You are a wave. The universe is formed from an ocean of consciousness that expresses into form through waves or ripples, like thoughts, that become thoughtforms, and then actual physical forms.
Things are wet and wavy all the way up, at all levels of reality, from the earth plane, where wet, wavy water is needed to sustain life, through the more subtle ocean of air, which we breathe in waves, through soul, spirit, all the way back into the unmanifest Field or Ocean which has all those names like God and Zero Point Field, depending on your point of view.
The main point is, it's waves all the way through. So if you are going to get liberated from total identification with your physical, mental and especially emotional density, with your dry, separate "particleness." and travel through these dimensions from physical back to source, you need to know how to feel and surf the waves of life.
That's what this work is all about. Starting with the body, learning to bring the spontaneous wave of chi back into the flesh, then the breath, learning to wave-breathe,™ then becoming wet, fluid and wavy in mind, emotions, and in the subtle realms... and really as you ride that infinite wave surfboard, they all become One. You wake up in source, yet you haven't left your body. How about that? No dissociation required.
